New Aurora Tracking Tools Available from NDI
April 17, 2009
WATERLOO, Canada -- NDI (Northern Digital Inc.), a world-leader in 3D measurement technology for medical, industrial and research applications, is pleased to announce the release of two new "Ready-To-Use" tracking tools for the Aurora Electromagnetic Tracking System. Now available are the Aurora 6DOF Probe, Straight Tip and the Aurora 6DOF Reference Tool, 25 mm Disc.
These tools are key building blocks for computer-assisted applications, providing functions such as digitization and dynamic referencing in a robust and flexible format. All the components required for tracking are integrated in a format designed for medical use; sensor, cabling, enclosure, connection and firmware.
Aurora 6DOF Probe, Straight Tip
This is a general purpose digitizing probe with a rigid 65mm straight metal tip. OEM customization of the metal tip length and shape is also possible when required for specific applications. The probe reports 6DOF tracking information, contains two integrated user push buttons, and has a green LED indicator. The probe is designed to survive 20 autoclave cycles.
Aurora 6DOF Reference Tool, 25 mm Disc
This is a general purpose tracking reference tool that allows for many fixation methods. The flat PEEK disc has three reamed holes for precise fixation. The tool can also be secured with adhesive strips for temporary fixation. The waterproof disc also contains a green LED that indicates the tracking status of the tool. The reference tool is designed to survive 20 autoclave cycles.
Wolfgang Zimmerman, Aurora Program Manager commented, "NDI is pleased to offer complete tracking instrumentation for the Aurora System that reduces integration efforts for rapid application development. The probe and reference are just two examples of a comprehensive tooling program offered by NDI for medical OEMs and researchers. NDI is well positioned to develop custom tools for many medical applications and is able to provide cost-effective tools that are tailored to meet customer specific requirements."
NDI continues to add to the list of available sensors and tracking tools for use with the Aurora System. These innovations open the door to new and exciting possibilities for application development in the medical field.
