NDI to Demonstrate New Aurora Field Generators at CARS 2009

June 18, 2009

WATERLOO, Canada -- NDI (Northern Digital Inc.), a world-leader in 3D measurement technology for medical, industrial and research applications, is pleased to announce it will be demonstrating two new Field Generators for the Aurora Electromagnetic Tracking System at the Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery (CARS) congress and exhibition, being held in Berlin, Germany, June 23-27, 2009. On display at the NDI booth will be a new Window Field Generator and a Handheld Field Generator.

Designed for use with fluoroscopic imaging equipment, the Aurora Window Field Generator incorporates a central opening that allows x-ray beams from a fluoroscope to pass through freely. While maintaining extremely high tracking accuracy, the Field Generator (FG) does not impact the quality of the diagnostic image. This FG is designed to be placed below the patient, to allow tracking of flexible surgical instruments and imaging to occur simultaneously about the torso, thus supporting many interventional radiology applications. Examples of tools that can be tracked when integrated with NDI’s miniature sensors include the tips of catheters and needles, intravascular imaging devices, ablation needles, and electrophysiology mapping/ablation catheters.
